This Week News Profiles TYMDWB

27 Jan

Nicole, Brian and Danny pose for This Week News.

Kevin Parks of This Week News (Clintonville) wrote a fabulous profile on TYMDWB for the Jan. 28 edition. We are so honored by this coverage and the response to it! We heard also from Brian’s oncologist, Dr. Andrew Grainger, who will now share this great resource with the patients at Columbus Oncology and Hematology!

Finding an Audience

11 Dec

Went to see our new oncologist, Dr. Kristie Blum, yesterday at the James Cancer Center and continue to be amazed at how many lives are touched by cancer–many in a far more dramatic way than was ours. Although we wish it was not the case, this means that the audience for “The Year My Dad Went Bald” is likely more far-reaching that we could ever imagine.

We plan to send a complimentary copy of the book to the various oncology centers around our area, to doctor offices and support services. We are excited to partner with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which will help us promote the book in exchange for per-book donations, and we also promise donations to Hockey Fights Cancer for every book sold.

We have a lot of other plans to share the message of “The Year My Dad Went Bald,” but would love to hear from you any suggestions on getting the book into the hands of those who need it most. Any thoughts?

On Our Way!

Introducing ‘The Year My Dad Went Bald’

15 Nov

After being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in September 2008,  I had a lot to worry about–not the least of which was how I was going to explain what was going to happen to my son. And finding a book that would give insights into our immediate future was a lot harder than I expected.

Fast forward two years and, now that I am in remission, I knew I had an opportunity to share my story in a way that might help others feel a little less alone and a little less scared when it came to explaining their cancer diagnosis to their own child.

“The Year My Dad Went Bald” was born.

We are readying the book for the printers right now, and plan to have it out in time for Christmas. We are excited to be working to distribute the book through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and will donate a portion of all proceeds from sales of the book to L&LS, as well as the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer Program and the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation.
